What is GeneType for Breast Cancer and Colorectal Cancer?

GeneType tests are comprehensive disease risk assessments that combine DNA markers, as well as other risk factors like age and family history. The easy-to-understand results reveal a personalised risk, so patients and healthcare providers can take steps for early detection and prevention.

Who is eligible for the risk assessment tests?

Candidates for GeneType for Breast Cancer:

  • Women 35 years or older AND

  • With or without family history of breast cancer

Candidates for GeneType for Colorectal Cancer:

  • Individuals 30 years or older AND

  • With or without family history of breast cancer

What do the risk assessment tests tell you?

GeneType tests predict your risk of breast cancer/colorectal cancer, based on genetics and other risk factors. The test will not tell you if you have breast cancer/colorectal cancer today or if you definitely will or will not develop the diseases in the future.

How much do the risk assessment tests cost?
Each test retails for $349, but we are currently offering the tests at half price ($174).

What happens during the test?

The test consists of a cheek swab. It will take a maximum of 15 minutes to complete the forms required and perform the test.

How do you prepare for the risk assessment test?

Please refrain from eating or drinking at least an hour before the test.

What happens after the risk assessment test?

Approximately three weeks after your sample is sent to the lab, Surecell will receive your personalised risk assessment in an easy-to-understand report. A face-to-face or telehealth appointment will be organised to discuss the results of your test.

Depending on your results, our doctors can work with you to develop a personalised screening and risk reduction plan.
